Hepatitis

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. The inflammation is a defensive reaction from the body. Liver inflammation can have many causes. It can be caused by viruses and bacteria, but also by alcohol and drugs.

The forms of hepatitis which can be transmitted are usually caused by viruses. There are several types, labeled with the letters A, B, C, D and E. The consequences of an infection can vary widely. Hepatitis A heals on its own. Hepatitis B and C can make you chronically ill and can have serious consequences for your health.
