Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis is the most common sexually transmitted infection. It mostly affects women. It is caused by so-called trichomonads, which are very small single-celled organisms, also called flagellates. The infection usually causes inflammation in the bladder, urethra, or vagina.
Trichomoniasis raises the risk of becoming infected with HIV, as areas of inflammation make it easier for the virus to enter the body.
